How to Make an Invoice

If you have just started your own business, then you would want to learn to make an invoice easily. In this story, we tell you exactly how to do that.
Whether you have a small company or a three-generation, nationwide family business, if you sell goods or provide services, then you will be expected to give out invoices to customers.
For someone who has been handling a business for a while, it will be easy to create an invoice, but for someone who is new to the business, has a small business, or is a freelancer, it is important to learn to make this document. This will enable them to provide customers with a bill for the services provided.

Using Microsoft Word

You can easily use Microsoft Word to create an invoice sheet as it comes with templates that will aid you. Depending on the type of business you own, you can personalize the simple template that you choose.
  • First and foremost, you will need to open a new document on Microsoft Word by clicking on the appropriate option.
  • Next, search for the office button which will be located at the left-hand side of your screen on the top. Next click on the option for new that appears on the drop-down menu. This will give you a variety of categories of templates to choose from.
  • Next, choose the option installed templates and you will now open up a selection that you can choose from. You can type invoice in the search dialog box which will then show you only those templates that you can use.
  • Microsoft Word has a huge range of options for templates and, according to your needs, you can choose one of the options available. If you are still looking for more options, then you can download them.
Once you have made a selection of the template that you want, there is nothing more to learn. Just personalize it according to your needs, and print it, as and when required.

Using Microsoft Excel

Another option that is available to you is using Microsoft Excel. Creating an invoice on Excel will also allow you to keep records of all the invoices that you have provided customers with. Also, since Excel allows you to use a pre-formatted document, it is easier to make an invoice. Just follow the simple instructions given here.
  • First and foremost, open a new document with Microsoft Excel. Click on the option to create a new workbook.
  • Next, search for the Microsoft Office Online button and choose the option for invoices. You have to be logged on to the Internet to use this option.
  • The site that you are led to, has a huge variety of templates available. Download the one you want to use, and save it on your system.
  • Open this template with Excel and fill out all the details that you want to, in order to personalize the same.
Once you have created the template the way you want to, you can print it, as and when you need to. As long as you know how to write an invoice, you should have no problem giving your customers a well-drafted invoice with all the necessary details.
